2018 Juvenile Club News

The Munster even age group Cross country championship took place in Beaufort Kerry on Sunday last and 18 Clonmel juvenile athletes travelled to represent Club and County.
First up for Clonmel in the Girls u12 was Rachel Buckley who put in a great performance to come home in 43rd place out of a field of 130 starting athletes. In the boys u12 an equally large field of 120 athletes saw a great run from Matthew Downey to place 31st. Next up were the girls u14 and here we had our first medals of the day with Ruby Carroll and Jane O Donnell finishing 37th and 50th respectively both positions placed them on the Tipperary County team that took the bronze medals. In the boys u14 we had fantastic runs from Conor O Gorman 13th and Cathal O Gorman 51st. Conor finished just outside the individual medal positions but was on the winning Tipperary County team.
In the girls u16 race we had Laura Cooney who ran brilliantly to finish in 14th place just outside the individual medal positions and was the 3rd member of the Tipperary team which finished 4th and Roise Flaherty who ran very well to place 54th . In the boys u16 race Conor Flaherty ran a great race to finish in 46th position.
In the girls u18 Clonmel A.C. had its first individual medal winner of the Championship with a fantastic performance by Siobhan Whelan to place 6th out of her age group and also the first Tipperary lady home. This race also saw a great run from Brid Moynihan to place 29th and second Tipperary Lady home unfortunately Tipperary could not field a full team in this age group. In the final juvenile race of the day Gavin English picked up Clonmel A.C.’s last individual medal with a fantastic performance to place 11th Lorcan O Keeffe also ran a great race to finish in 26th place. Again unfortunately for both lads Tipperary could not field a team in this age group.

In total Clonmel A.C. picked up 5 Munster medals and these medal winners will progress to the National Juvenile Cross Country Championships at the National Sports Arena in Abbotstown on the 25th November and we wish they the best of luck.
