Tullamore was the venue last Saturday for the All Ireland Master Track and Field Championships. Conditions were good, and it was great to see Club members performing so well on the National stage. Hazel Galloway had a very good Championships. In the 200m she ran a brilliant race especially coming off the final bend when powering down the finishing straight to win the women’s over 60 200m in a brilliant time of 34.33 secs. Earlier in the day she competed in the 100m final where she got out of the blocks slowly but was full of running over the final 50m to win the Silver medal in 16.16 secs, she wasn’t going to make that mistake in the 200m. Bernard O Neill also had a very good Championships. Indeed, his participation was in doubt up until a few weeks ago as he was recovering from injury, but he was determined to compete. In the 200m he ran a great race when finishing 3rd in 31.7 secs while earlier in the day he won the 100m over 70 Bronze medal, great to see an athlete like Bernard still enjoying the Sport, great ambassador for the Sport. John Laste also had a very good Championship running a PB in the men’s over 55 400m when finishing 7th in 68.35 secs. Bernard Feery was another athlete recovering from injury and he too ran well when finishing 7th in the Men’s over 55 5000m in 20 mins 41.64 secs.
