The Club made a special presentation to Courtney McGuire on her winning the National Senior Women’s Marathon title in Dublin last month in 2 hours 32 mins 52 secs. She becomes the first Club and indeed the first County athlete to win this prestigious title. She is also the youngest winner of this title. Frank Lynch, the Club Chairman, outlined her achievements and gave special mention to David Kenneally who encouraged Courtney to take up running while she was a pupil at the Presentation Convent Clonmel. In her reply she encouraged the younger club members in the audience to keep training and over time you will achieve your potential. She also paid a special tribute to her coach, Sean Tobin. Nora Palazzo, on behalf of the Club, presented Courtney with a beautiful piece of glass that had a photo of her crossing the finishing line etched on it. Something that Courtney will treasure for the rest of her life. To crown off a great year for Courtney, brilliant news to see that she has been selected as the Athletics Sports Star for the prestigious Annerville Awards for 2022.
