The very popular Streets of Kilkenny 5k road race took place last week and it attracted a top class entry. The race, which started against the backdrop of Kilkenny Castle and finished on the Parade, was over 2 laps of a very good route. The race started and soon a group of athletes went to the front. In that group was William Maunsell and he was well place throughout the race. With 1km to go William was in 4th place and running very well. Then over the closing stages he moved into 3rd place and held on to finish in a new PB of 14 mins 17 secs, brilliant performance. Another athlete posting a PB over this classic distance was Conor Flaherty. Conor put in a great performance when finishing 56th in 16 mins 12 secs, improving on his previous best set in Portlaoise recently of 16 mins 47 secs, a massive improvement. Then we had Nigel O Flaherty making a welcome return to competition, running well when finishing 81st in 16 mins 59 secs.
