The County Juvenile and Senior Cross Country Relay Championships took place in Thurles today 16th October and Clonmel had 5 teams participating. First up was our under 14 girls and our team of Caroline Smith, Cara Ryan, Alice Meegan and Hannah Murray ran brilliantly to claim the Silver medals. In the boys under 14 race another great result with the team of Harry Weymouth, Harry Walsh, Darragh Boland and Ryan Kennedy claiming the bronze medals. Next up was the under 16 mixed relay and brilliant racing saw the team of Meabh Meegan, Sean Mullins, Lily Casey and Emer Brennan claim our second set of silver medals of the day. So far, the Gold medals had eluded us but that was all about to change with the staging of the Inaugural Senior event. Here the Club had two teams entered, which was brilliant. Our first team which consisted of Gillian Hughes, Tadhg Quinn, Ruby Carroll and Conor Flaherty, were well positioned throughout the first three legs with the team in the chasing pack, as the leaders, Thurles Crokes had a commanding lead going out on the final 500m leg. Anchoring our team was Conor Flaherty and he put in a tremendous effort, to whittle down the 80m lead on the leader and with 150m to go Conor edged in front and kept that momentum going to win a brilliant race and help the Club to win this inaugural Championship event, a piece of history. Our 2nd team of Eddie Meegan, Thomas Smith, Sareen Walsh and Eimear Heafey finishing just outside the medals with everyone putting in great performances.
