Clonmel Juvenile Athletic Club Notes 2nd April
Ava Fennessey Wins All Ireland Silver Medal
Day 3 of the All Ireland Indoor Championship took place in Athlone on Saturday with Clonmel’s AC Ava Fennessey competing in U16 girls 800m meters. 8 girls from all four corners of the country lined up to test their skill to see who would be crowned National Champion.
This pulsating race comprised of 4 laps of 200 meters and right from the off Ava who started in lane 2 took up a good position in 3rd place and with 200m to go took up the lead, a lead which she held until the last 5 meters when she was pipped on the line for first place. Ava set a new Indoor PB time of 2.19 for the distance in the process. Ava said great credit must go to her coach Anthony Moynihan for getting her to the race in peak condition.
Well done Ava from all at Clonmel AC for a spectacular performance.

Great performances at the Ferrybank Open Sports
Eight Clonmel athletes started their outdoor Track and Field season at Ferrybank’s Annual Open Sports day on Sunday 9th April and we had podium placing in a number of events medaling on seven occasions. This was an amazing achievement considering the huge number of athletes from all over Munster and Leinster that turned up ensuring that entries of 40 athletes were not uncommon in some of the competitions.
In the Boys U11 Killian Whelan won a Gold medal in the 4x100m relay, a bronze medal in the 80m sprint and a bronze medal in the Shot Putt. Sarah Whelan in the Girls U8 competition put in a fine performance when finishing 4th in the 60m sprint, 5th in the 200m and 5th in the long jump. Tristan O’Connor put in a fantastic race in the Boys u10 300m and was unlucky not to come away with top honours ending up with a second place spot and a silver medal. Brother Nathan O’Connor put in some fine performances in the Shot Putt and the 500m. Adhvait Divakaran won a Gold medal in the 4x 100m relay. Cathal Heafey had fine performance in the 1500m race walk and in the Shot Putt.
In the race walking events Clonmel had a double podium finish with Eimear Heafey in 3rd and Grainne O’Connor taking top honours winning Gold in the Girls u14 1500m.

Great performances at Munster Pentathlon
The Munster Juvenile Pentathlon Champions took place at Waterford’s RSC track today 22nd April and Clonmel had two athletes competing. Killian Whelan in the Boys U11 and Kieran Proven in the Boys U12. This competition combines points from five events from both track and field.
Both lads did the club proud today with Killian who finished 4th amassing a points total of 953 and Kieran who finished 12th amassing a points total of 1006. Each setting four new PB’s along the way. Great practice for the upcoming County Track and Field Championship in two weeks.
