Clonmel Juvenile Athletic Club Notes June 2017
Clonmel Juvenile Club Notes 4th June
The Munster U9 to U13 Outdoor Championship took place in Ennis on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of June with weather conditions more reminiscent of a December Cross Country Championship than a June back holiday weekend and 6 lads travelled to represent Clonmel AC.
On the opening day there was a poignant one minute silence for our “one in a million coach” Mary Doyle before commencement of the games. There were record numbers of athletes competing with 50+ athletes in some of the events and as usual the standard was very high.
On day one we had three competitors Conor & Cathal O’Gorman and Cian Flaherty all of which competed in the u12 600m with Conor progressing through the heats and finishing in 7th place in the final and Cathal and Cian just outside the qualifying placings to make the final. Cian also competed in the Long Jump and jumped a seasons equaling best of 3.95m placing 7th.
On day two we again had three competitors with Daniel Charles competing in the u10 500m finishing just outside the qualifying placing for the final and in the Long Jump he jumped a seasons best of 3.18m finishing in 22nd position. In the u11 Long Jump we had Killian Whelan and Max Fitzgerald who had a combined Long Jump of 6.79m which placed them 5th in the team event. Killian and Max also placed 15th and 33rd in the u11 60m Dash. All 6 are now eligible for the Munster “B” Championship taking place in Templemore on the 29th July.
Clonmel AC would like to thank the athletes and parents who travelled to Ennis to participate in the event.
