Moyglass was the venue last Sunday for the County 10 Mile Road Championship, the last Championship of the current road season and it was great to see the Club very well represented at this event. The race started and soon we had Paul Minogue, making his Club debut at Championship level running a great race. Paul maintained a strong pace over a testing course to finish 9th in 59 mins 20 secs, great running. Then we had Conor Fleming also running well when winning the over 50 Bronze medal in 63 mins 2 secs. Lar Martin is another athlete running very well at present and his performance saw him winning the County over 40 title in 63 mins 51 secs. Then we had Vasiliy Neumerzhitskiy also running very well when finishing 22nd in 65 mins 46 secs and along with Paul, Conor and Lar captured the Inter Club Bronze medals, for Paul Minogue it was his first County medal, great performance. Then we had Sean McCarthy, another athlete showing great progress this year running well when finishing 25th in 67 mins 20 secs with Oliver Lynch hot on his heels in 26th place in 67 mins 26 secs. Then we had Bernard Feery also running very well when winning the over 55 Silver medal in 68 mins 38 secs and along with Sean and Oliver won the Gold medals in the Inter Club B Section and for Oliver Lynch it was his first County medal in this event. Then we had great performances from Mark Corcoran 30th in 68:43, Aidan Cremin 46th in 73:54, Donal Ryan 50th in 77:05 and Pat Coffey 51st in 77:39. The trio of Mark, Aidan and Donal captured the Inter Club Bronze medals in the B Section.
Our women athletes also ran very well in such testing conditions. We had Michelle Doherty leading them home when running very well to finish in 72 mins 16 secs and win the over 40 County title with Siobhan McHugh hot on her heels winning the over 45 County title in 72 mins 17 secs. Then we had Nicola Maunsell also running well when winning the women’s over 45 Bronze medal in 76:14 and along with Michelle and Siobhan they won the Inter Club Bronze medals. Then we had Sancha Quigley making her debut in the event also running very well when finishing in 79 mins 25 secs with Helen O Ceallaigh also running very well when winning the women’s over 50 County title in 90 mins 20 secs and it was great to see Donna Nagle back competing again at Championship level and she too ran well when finishing in 93 mins 39 secs and the trio of Sancha, Helen and Donna combined to win the inter Club Gold medals in the B Section and a first County Senior medal for Sancha, brilliant running all round.
