The County Tipperary Awards were held in the Horse and Jockey last Friday night and once again the organising committee are to be complimented on a great promotion of the Sport and brilliant to see so many talented athletes in the County performing at such a high level in a great variety of events from Track and Field to Road to Cross Country at every level, County, Provincial, National and International level. Indeed it was great to see Club members being awarded for their great achievements during 2018. David Mansfield was a very worthy recipient of the International Award, he achieved a lot of success whether it was on the road, track or Cross Country. On the track he was part of the County men’s team that qualified for the National Track and Field League final where he ran a very good 5000m race in 15 mins 3.63 secs when finishing 3rd. The Road has been his main aim all year and here he performed very well at a number of distances. His most outstanding performance has to be his Dublin City Marathon performance last October. Here he ran the proverbial blinder when finishing in a PB of 2 hours 20 mins 15 secs. This fantastic performance saw him winning the European Police Marathon title. He also ran very well in the National Half Marathon when winning the Silver medal in 69 mins. On both occasions he played a major role in helping Clonmel AC win National Medals in both events. He then turned his attention to Cross Country and here he played a major role in helping Clonmel AC win the National Senior Inter Club Bronze medals, a first by any Club in the County since Athletics Ireland was formed. He rounded off a very good Cross-Country season when winning the County Senior Silver medal in the 2018 Championships. We also had athletes like Cian Flaherty, Connor O Gorman, Sean Tobin, Kevin Maunsell, William Maunsell, Jimmy Boland, Joey Feery, David Ryan, Aine Roche, Anne Marie Halpin, Kealey Tideswell, Hazel Galloway been recognised for their achievements in 2018.
