The Charity race of this year’s series took place tonight in cold but dry weather and we saw some great performances throughout the race. The Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as race Headquarters and the Red Cross for First Aid. The Club also appreciated the great work by our many stewards who despite the cold weather ensured that the whole event was a brilliant success. Tonight’s race raised 650 Euros for this very worthy cause and thanks to everyone who contributed so generously.
The race format tonight was Lucky Dip and the winners were Anthony Power 12th in 16 mins 53 secs, Michael Ryan 26th in 18 mins 29 secs, Billy Prout 45th in 21 mins 51 secs, Susan Moore 52nd in 22 mins 49 secs, Catherine Crotty 64th in 25 mins 18 secs and Clodagh O Donnell 75th in 34 mins 9 secs.
Tonight’s race was won by Emmet McNamara in 14 mins 6 secs with Anthony Bowen 2nd in 14 mins 44 secs and Patrick Roche 3rd in 14 mins 49 secs. The top three women were Angela McCann 5th in 15 mins 31 secs, quick recovery from her Lanzarote Marathon great performance at the weekend, Suzanne Shine 11th in 16 mins 52 secs and 3rd Aisling English 14th in 17 mins 4 secs.
In this series of races, we had 192 athletes taking part in one or more races, which is brilliant and great to see a lot of newcomers. We had 8 athletes who competed in all 5 races and they were Aisling English, Eddie Prendergast, Grainne O Callaghan, Joyce Cullinane, Molly O Dwyer, Patrick Roche, Susan Moore and Thomas Moloney.
Our next Promotion is the MSD 4 Mile on St Stephen’s Day, which again should be a great event as we are celebrating the 31st Anniversary of this event, which was started in 1988 with the aim of encouraging people to participate in running and it is still achieving that Goal. Make this your last race of the Decade – 12 Noon, St Stephen’s Day, Registrations at Colaiste Cheitinn, the Mall from 10am onwards.
