Evan Fitzgerald wins 4K – Clonmel Athletic Club

The 2^nd race of the Clonmel AC New Year’s Resolution 4k took place tonight on a cold but dry night where athletes had to contend with a strong breeze on the Waterford Road part of the course. Tonight, we again had three groups going off at different times, the first group, Yellow Number, went off at the Race Start time, Group two, the Green numbers went off 20 seconds later and so we deducted 20 seconds off these athletes’ finishing times and group three, the Orange numbers, went off 20 seconds after group two, so we deducted 40 seconds off their finishing times. The results below will show the nett time for each finisher.

The format for tonight’s race was Lucky Dip, this is where pre-selected finishing positions are selected before the race start and whoever finished in those pre-selected positions won an award and tonight’s winners were Barry Horgan 12^th in 16 mins 46 secs, Michael Ryan 27^th in 18 mins 32 secs, Liam Keane 30^th in 18 mins 52 secs and Sinead Stanford 62^nd in 27 mins.

Tonight’s race was won in a very good time by Evan Fitzgerald who came home a clear winner in 14 mins 3 secs, 2^nd was Joe Morgan in 15 mins 29 secs with Alan Carter 3^rd in 15 mins 33 secs. The top three women finishers were 1^st Ann Marie Boland 16 mins 37 secs, 2^nd Ali O Connor in 16 mins 48 secs and 3^rd Elaine Horgan in 17 mins 27 secs.

The Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their car park as Race Headquarters, the Red Cross for the First Aid and to our many stewards and helpers who ensured that the whole event was a great success.

Here is a local race coming up on this Sunday 20^th January, it is the Newcastle 5k, a well organised event and you will be guaranteed a great race and plenty of Post-Race Refreshments for just 10 Euros.
