Moyne Athletic Club celebrated 70 years of activity with a very good promotion of the Sport at their fine facility, a credit to all involved. They had a variety of events that catered for Juvenile, Seniors and Masters in a 2-hour programme. The highlight of the evening was the Senior Men’s mile with the aim of achieving the very first sub 4-minute mile in the County. Three athletes competed with all eyes on our own Sean Tobin. The pace was set by William Hughes of Thurles Crokes with Sean and Damian Landers of Ennis Track in close attention. William set a strong pace that saw them running 60 seconds for the first lap and he kept that pace going with them reaching 800m in 2 mins 1 secs. At this stages Sean took up the mantle and encouraged by all the spectators who were spread right around the track he gave it a mighty go, reaching the bell in 3 mins 3 secs. On the final lap he maintained that strong pace to finish in a very good time of 4 mins 4.39 secs, fantastic performance in such circumstances. Sean received a fantastic reception from everyone for such a performance. He now sets his sights on the Mile in the Cork City Sport, next Monday followed by the Morton mile in Santry next Thursday night.
