The County Cross Country season got underway in Middlepiece last Sunday with the County Juvenile Even age groups Championships. The Girls under 10 got the season off to a very good start with some great performances, like Layla Tideswell who ran very well when finishing 11th. We also had good performances from Alice Meegan 25th, Sasha Tideswell 26th, Laura Chawke 30thand Katie Coffey 41st. This squad combined very well to finish a close 4th. In the Boys under 10 race we also saw some great running particularly by Harry Weymouth 7th, Daragh Boland 9th, Hugh Carolan 19th, Donnacha Hurley 30th, Mark McCauley 40th and Liam O Loughlin 59th. This squad finished a close 5th in the inter Club competition.
In the Girls under 12 race Eavann Duffy ran a brilliant race when winning the Bronze medal and with great performances from Rachel Buckley 5th, Erin O Keeffe 17th and Meabh Meegan 30th, they combined very well to win the Inter Club Silver medals. We also saw some great running by Rachel Logue 32nd Siofra O Loughlin 44th and Rachel Burke 45th. In the boys race we had good performances from Matthew Downey 5th, Sean Mullins 11th and Louis Carroll 14th.
In the Girls under 14 race Jane O Donnell ran a great race to win the Bronze medal and we also saw great performances from Ruby Carroll 5th and Caoimhe Keeley 10th. It was a pity we were short one athlete as these great performances would have reaped Inter Club medals. In the Boys race Connor O Gorman ran very well when finishing 7th and with Cian Flaherty 9th, Cathal O Gorman 11th and Thomas Smith 14th, this team won the Inter Club Silver medals. We also had good running from Peer Carmody 16th.
In the Girls under 16 race we witnessed some great performances especially Laura Cooney who was 2nd to Irish International athlete Aimee Hayde of Newport with Emma Murray on her Club debut winning the bronze medal. We also had great running from Gillian Hughes 5th, Celine Durand 6th, Muireann Duffy 7th , Saoirse Treacy 8th, Ellen Houze 10th and Roise Flaherty 12th. These athletes combined very well to win the Gold and Silver inter Club medals. In the boys race we had Conor Flaherty running well when finishing 8th.
In the Girls under 18 race Siobhan Whelan put in a brilliant piece of running to win the Event convincingly. Then we had Brid Moynihan also running very well when winning the bronze medals with Elam Casey finishing a close 4th. These three athletes combined to win the Gold medals. In the final race of the day Gavin English ran very well when winning the title convincingly and with Daniel Slattery winning the bronze medals and Lorcan O Keeffe finishing 4th, they combined to win the Gold medals on what was a very good day for the Club at these Championships. The Club would lie to thank the many parents who travelled and helped, very much appreciated, roll on Moyglass next Sunday.
