The Munster under 9 to u11 championships were held in Nenagh last weekend, the 26th March and Clonmel AC had 4 athletes compete. An absolutely massive field of nearly 700 kids competed across these 3 age groups. In the girls under 10 Faye Hallinan ran a brilliant race to cover the 500m in 1 min 53 secs and placed 3rd in her heat. Faye also placed 14th in the Long Jump with a distance of 2.60m. In the boys under 10 Darragh Heaney ran a great time of 10.18 secs and placed 2nd in his heat in an event that had 99 competitors. Daragh also competed in the 500m and had a good time of 1 min 56 secs as well as the Long Jump where he jumped a very good distance of 2.83m where he placed 7th. In the girls under 11 age group Aoife Hennessey ran a great time of 2 mins 8 secs for 600m comfortably winning her heat but was just outside the medal placing. Had she had a stronger heat and someone to push her she might have made the podium. Aoife also competed in the Long Jump and again was just outside the medals placing 4th with a jump of 3.23m. Finally, we had Fionn Aird who ran a brilliant race in a very competitive heat in a time of 2.00. Fionn was just outside the medal placings. Well done to all our young athletes and thank you to the parents and coaches. No medals today but invaluable experience gained.
