The National Uneven Age Cross Country Championship took place in the WIT Sports Campus, Carriganore Waterford and Clonmel was well represented by 6 athletes. The conditions were good under foot and race numbers of 200 were not uncommon.
The first race of the day for Clonmel was the girls u11 and here Rachel Buckley in her first All Ireland put in a stellar performance when coming home in 120th position.Next up was the girls u13 and here we had 2 athletes Ruby Carroll in 89th place and Jane O Donnell in 99th place both running on the Tipperary team which finished in 6th place.In the girls u15 Gillian Hughes ran a great race to finish in 93rd place and was the 5th member of the Tipperary team which placed 8th.
Next up was the girls u17 and here Siobhan Whelan running out of her age group ran a fantastic race to finished in 20th and was just outside the medals as she was the 7th Munster athlete on a winning Munster team.The final event of the day for the Clonmel juveniles was the girls u19 and here Ciara O Neill ran a brilliant race to finish in 26th position.Clonmel AC would like to congratulate the athletes and parents that travelled to Waterford today to fly the flag for Club, County and Province. As this was the final competition of the year for juveniles we would like to thanks all juvenile club members for the fantastic year that was 2017. There have been many moments to look back and be proud off. Looking forward to an exciting 2018 athletics year we are returning to training on the 9th Jan.
