This very popular race was back on the athletic calendar again last Friday night where warm sunny weather greeted the athletes as they descended on the village. Once again it was great to see so many club members taking part as we get use to these races back on the circuit again. Indeed, the social aspect of the event was just brilliant, no doubt aided by the wonderful postrace refreshments afterwards which left no scone unturned.
The race itself saw 37 members competing on what was an ideal night for running and as such we saw some great performances. None more so that Nigel O Flaherty who ran a very good race when finishing 3rd in 28 mins 59 secs. Then we had Kealey Tideswell also running a great race to win the women’s race very convincingly in a very good time of 29 mins 11 secs. Just 24 hours earlier she ran a brilliant race in the Cheetah 5K when finishing 3rd woman in 18 mins 24 secs. It is great to see Kealey back running very well again. Then we had Donal Ryan also running very well when finishing 11th in 31mins 58 secs with Eelco Beckers hot on his heels and winning the over 40 award in a very good time of 32 mins 6 secs, which I would say is a PB for Eelco over this distance.
