The curtain came down on what has been a very successful Cross Country season for the Club at County level last Sunday. The County Masters Cross Country Championships took place in the Thurles Crokes complex where conditions were very good. The women’s race over 4k saw Kealey Tideswell running a great race when winning the women’s over 35 Gold medal. Then we had Elaine Horgan also running very well when finishing 4th over and winning the women’s over 40 Bronze medal. Anne Marie Halpin also ran very well when finishing 7th overall to win the women’s over 45 Silver medal. This race also incorporated the Men’s over 65 race. Here we had Tom Quinn making a welcome return to competition. He ran very well when winning the men’s over 65 Bronze medal with Ned O Brien also running well when finishing 5th. Then we had Myles McHugh running well when winning the over 75 Gold medal. This talented trio combined very well to win the Silver team medals and great credit to all three athletes for continuing to enjoy the Sport.
The men’s race over 7K also saw the Club well represented. Here Paul Minogue was in the leading group of four athletes who set a strong tempo. Going out on the last lap he was in the leading group of three and in a hectic final 300m he rallied very well to win the Gold medal over 35, brilliant performance by Paul and this performance rounds off a fantastic year for Paul as he won three County Cross Country titles as well as one County Road title while finishing in the top three in the other four County Championships that he competed in, mister consistency. Then we had Conor Fleming also running well when winning the over 50 Silver medal. We also had good performances from Barry Horgan 29th, Eelco Beckers 30th Bernard Feery 39th, Sean O Dea 43rd and Donie Casey 52nd.
