Jimmy Boland got 2018 off to a flying start when winning the Kildare Half Marathon in Donedea Forest last Saturday. He had 10 seconds to spare at the finish when winning in 78 mins 8 secs. The race was 4 laps of a trail run in Donedea forest. The race started and soon a group of athletes dictated the pace that included Jimmy, then midway through the first lap Jimmy went to the front and increased the pace that soon saw him, and another athlete go into a clear lead. At this stage Jimmy was running strong and on the 2nd lap he was a clear leader. He kept that pace going but going out on the final lap, his lead was down to a few metres, however Jimmy rallied well over the final 2k to win a great race.
Then we had Kealey Tideswell also running a great race when finishing 2nd Senior woman in 93 mins 11 secs when 11th overall. It is great to see these two athletes getting their 2018 year off to a brilliant start.
