Clonmel AC’s very popular Pre Christmas 4K road race series
sponsored by O Reilly’s Total Health Pharmacy, Gladstone Street, got off to a
brilliant start tonight with 74 athletes competing on a wet night. The Club
would like to thank Barry Horgan for such generous sponsorship. The Club would also
like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as race
headquarters and to the Red Cross for First Aid.
It was great to see a lot of new faces participating tonight and the incentive
now is to run two out of the next three races and you will win a very nice
Goody bag, well worth competing for. Tonight’s format was a Lucky Dip, this is
where predetermined finishing positions are drawn before the race starts and
the people who finish in these Lucky positions will win a Cash prize. Tonight’s
winners included Suzanne Shine who was 14th in 17 mins 9 secs, Emma Ferris 28th
in 18 mins 34 secs and Patrick O Gorman 40th in 20 mins 25 secs. We also
presented 10 Spot prizes of Umbrellas among the finishers. Everyone who
competed tonight was entered into a Draw for a very generous Hamper sponsored
by O Reilly’s Total Health Pharmacy and the winner was Joyce Cullinane who was
64th in 24 mins 32 secs. There will be a hamper raffled off at the next three
races, so if you are not in you can’t win, so come along next Wednesday to the
Brothers of Charity Carpark and enter, the entry fee is 4 Euros. The first
three Men in tonight’s race were Jimmy Boland 1st in 13 mins 59 secs, fresh
from his great performance in the Dublin City marathon last Sunday, 2nd Patrick
Roche in 15 mins 19 secs and 3rd Colm Armstrong 15 mins 53 secs. The first 3
women were Clare Annan 1st in 16 mins 40 secs, 2nd Suzanne Shine 17 mins 9 secs
and 3rd was Grainne O Callaghan in 17 mins 22 secs. The Club would also like to
thank our many stewards who ensured that the whole event was a great success,
such help is always greatly appreciated.
Just a note on Safety for the remaining races in the series – No Headphones are
allowed and we will be enforcing that rule going forward, it is there for your
safety as well as everyone else. Also, everyone has to wear a HIGH VIZ, not a
bright Yellow top. So again NO REFLECTIVE HIGH VIZ – NO RUN
