These Championships are taking place in Tampere, Finland and there is a very strong Irish team competing. John Laste is tasting competition at this level for the very first time. His first event was the 10K race Walk. Here the standards are very competitive, with the best in the world competing while the warm conditions also made it very demanding. However, John stuck to his plan and while the terrain was challenging, he got stronger as the event unfolded and kept the tempo going to eventually finish 14th in his category in 66 mins 10 secs. The winning time was a phenomenal time of 49 mins with the top ten all under the hour. John’s next event is the 20Km walk on Wednesday.
