A busy weekend of juvenile competitions with athletes travelling to Nenagh for the Munster Indoors and Castlelyons for the National Juvenile B cross country. In what was for most juvenile athletes the curtain raiser for the new athletics season, Clonmel AC brought home many medals.
On Saturday the 12th of Feb, the juvenile walks took place in Nenagh, and all 3 competitors came home with Silverware. First up was Niamh Clark in the u14 girls 1km walk and walked a great race to take the bronze medal. Next up was Ivy Rhatigan in the girls u15 1km walk and another great result with a bronze medal. Then onto Sam O’Sullivan the stalwart of Clonmel Ac race walking and international athlete who took the gold medal in the boys u18 1.5km walk. That win added to this season’s Munster titles as Sam had won the junior men’s 3km walk the previous week.
On Sunday the 13th of Feb, the national Juvenile B championships took place in Fermoy and Clonmel AC had 3 athletes competing. First up was Eadaoin Duffy in the girls u13 race and although just outside the individual medal positions when finishing 14th out of a field of over 120 athletes she was a scoring member of the Tipperary team that took the bronze medals. Then we had Ruby Carroll in the girls u17 who ran a brilliant race to place 5th and win an individual National medal on top of her 3rd place bronze in the Munster indoor 3000m junior ladies a week ago. Finally, we had Cian Flaherty in the boys u17 race and another brilliant result and National medal with Cian placing 9th. A belated well done to Harry Weymouth who competed in the Munster indoor u14 800m in Nenagh on the 5th of Feb.
As usual, a big well done to athletes, coaches and parents for their continued support.
