The Munster Novice and under 23 Cross Country Championships took place in ideal conditions last Sunday at the Turnpike. In the women’s race Moya was well placed throughout the race and put in a great effort over the closing stages when finishing 4th overall to win the under 23 Silver medal, brilliant running. Then we had Suzanne Shine also running a powerful race when finishing strongly in 14th place and along with Moya helped the County team to win the gold medals. We also had very good performances from both Elaine Horgan 16th and Sareen Walsh 33rd. Our team of Moya, Suzanne, Elaine and Sareen combined very well to win the Inter Club silver medals, only to lose out on countback for the gold, brilliant performances all round.
The men’s race over 3 laps was also very competitive. Here Paul Minogue was well in the mix for the first half of the race that was competed at a very hot pace. He kept the tempo going and battled back well again over the final stages to finish a very creditable 11th and was the 2nd scorer on the County team that won the bronze medals. We also had good performances from Barry Horgan, Michael McNamara, his best run over the country this year, Donal Ryan and Niall O Ceallaigh had a great tussle over the final 100m with Alan O Shea also finishing well.
