The Munster Indoor U9 to U12 Championship and Juvenile Walks took place in Nenagh on Saturday and Sunday last and the club was well represented with 15 athletes competing. With some races having entries in the 60’s preliminaries semi-finals and finals were required in the sprints.
On day one we had Sarah Whelan running in her first U9 girls 300m and ran very well when finishing in 21st place. Next, we had 3 more debutants in the boys U10 Long Jump and 60m Dash. Liam Proven ran well in the preliminaries and had a Long Jump of 1.92 meters to finish in 39th place. Donnacha Hurley ran well in the preliminaries and had a Long Jump of 2.02 to finish in 38th place and Shane O Mahoney also ran well in the preliminaries and had a Long Jump of 2.46 to finish in 33rd place. In the boys U11 we had Daniel Charles compete in the Long Jump and placed 26th with a jump of 3.08m and Adhvaith Divakaran jumped a massive PB of 3.33m to place 15th. Both lads also ran very well in the 60m Dash preliminaries though Daniel was unlucky as he tripped after repeated breaks (by other athletes) at the start of his race.
Next up was Kate Hennessy and Erin O Keeffe in the girls U11 600m and Kate ran very well to place 27 in a time of 2 mins 26 secs while Erin a veteran of this competition put in a great performance to run 2.10 and place 9th. Kate’s older sister Cara also ran very well in the girls U12 600m to place 17 in a time of 2 mins 15 secs. The final event of day one was the Boys U12 60m and here Killian Whelan a finalist in last year’s event again progressed through the preliminaries, semis to the final where he ran a new PB of 9.22 secs in the final to place 7th. Four Tipperary athletes made the final of this race setting up a great showdown in the coming County Championship.
On day two we had Darragh Boland compete in the boys U10 500m and Darragh ran a great race when coming home in 17th position in a time of 1 min 47 secs while we also had a very good performance from Darragh O Gorman in the boys U11 600m when finishing in 25th place in a time of 2 mins 26 secs. The juvenile walks saw medal winning performances from all our athletes with Grainne O Connor and Ellen Houze finishing a brilliant race to take the Silver and Bronze medals in the girls U15 1km walk. While our performance of the Championship goes to Sam O Sullivan for taking the Gold Medal and the Munster Title for his fantastic performance in the Boys u14 1 km walk.
