Moyne hosted the County Novice B Cross Country Championships last Sunday in ideal conditions with the going very firm and ideal weather for running cross country. In the women’s 3k race we had a team, and they all ran very well. Right from the start Michelle Doherty and Sareen Walsh set the pace with Jennifer Quinlan in close attention over the three-lap race. Then going out on the 2nd lap Michelle and Sareen opened up a nice lead. They were still together going out on the final lap. Midway through this lap Sareen went into the lead and soon opened a gap on Michelle, which she held all the way to the line to win and was crowned Champion. This was an impressive performance by Sareen who was 2nd in last year’s race. Michelle Doherty also ran very well when winning the silver medal with Jennifer winning the bronze medal. These three athletes combined to win the Cup and retain it for another year.
In the men’s race we had two competitors and both athletes ran very well with Michael McNamara finishing 18th and Liam Casey finishing 19th.
