The Dublin Graded track meet took place in mid August in Tallaght. Sean Tobin competed in the 5000m race in what were warm conditions. The race started and a group of three, including Sean, began to set a strong even pace, averaging laps of 67 secs, that soon saw them draw clear of the rest of the field. The leading group was down to two athletes, Sean, and Brian Fay of Raheny Shamrocks, as they approached the 1st mile in 4 mins 27 secs. They maintained that strong pace with a few 65 secs laps which saw Sean moving into the lead. Sean kept this tempo going, reaching two miles in 8 mins 18 secs. At this stage Sean was beginning to lap athletes, and this helped him to stay focussed as he reeled them in while maintaining this strong pace. He reached the bell in 12 mins 48 secs and put in a great last lap to win in a brilliant time of 13 mins 53.65 secs to post a new PB. His previous best was 13 mins 56.22 secs which he set in Nijmegen in June last year. This was a brilliant performance by Sean who ran the 2nd half of the race on his own in such warm conditions.
