The Streets of Portlaoise 5k road race attracted a very good entry on St Patrick’s Day with Club members to the fore. It was brilliant to see Sean Tobin back competing again after a lengthy lay off due to injury. Sean set a strong pace from the start reeling in the kms at 2 mins 50 pace with Paul O Donnell of DSD AC matching every stride. Then over the final 1km Sean dug deep to edge in front to cross the finishing line in a new course record of 14 mins 14 secs, brilliant running. Then we had Evan Fitzgerald also running a brilliant race when finishing 7th in 14 mins 52 secs. David Mansfield also ran very well and showed no ill effects of his impressive performance in the Seville marathon when finishing 9th in 15 mins 10 secs. Conor Flaherty is another athlete who posted a PB for this distance when running very well to finish 57th in 16 mins 47 secs.
