Sean competed last night in a very good 3000m race in Barcelona. The pace was fast from the start with the pacemaker setting a strong pace that saw the leading group go through the 1st km in 2 mins 34.57 secs with Sean in 2nd place and the eventual winner sitting on his shoulders in 3rd. Then with 1300m to go the pacemaker steps off with Sean picking up the pace and over the next 4 laps he kept the strong pace going reaching 2k in 5 mins 14.28 secs. Then with just over 600m to go, 3 laps, the winner went clear with Sean giving it everything to keep in touch. The winner went on to win convincingly in 7 mins 45.54 secs with Sean edged out close to the line finishing a very good 3rd in 7 mins 51.49 secs.
This was a very positive performance by Sean who was having his 3rd race in three different countries in 10 days and when you consider that this effort was just 48 hours after he wins a brilliant race in Metz where he set a new Personal best of 7 mins 48.01 secs, speaks volume. In this his 3rd race he showed great strength and pace to maintain such a high effort against top quality athletes.
