The Club’s very popular Pre-Christmas 4K Series of Races for 2018 got underway tonight. The Club is very grateful to Barry Horgan for sponsoring this year’s series and indeed very many of tonight participants were treated to some lovely Spot prizes which were well scattered among all the participants throughout the race, they were the Lucky ones tonight. All going well we may have more Spot prizes for next week’s race. Also, anyone that participated tonight are well on their way to receiving a special designed Umbrella for completing three out of the first four races of this year’s series. So, you all can still receive one of these special umbrellas, all you have to do is complete in the next three races to receive one, so mark next Wednesday night, 7th November into your diary, 7 pm start.

Once again we are indebted to all our Stewards for ensuring that the whole event was well managed and marshalled, thanks also to the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as Race Headquarters and to the Red Cross for First Aid.

Back to tonight’s race and indeed it was great to see many new faces taking part and great to see everyone completing the route with good times. Tonight, was a perfect night for running, no cold wind, ideal for running.

The format for tonight’s race was Lucky Dip and these places were pre-selected before the race start and the luck winners were Joe Gough 7th in 16:01, Pat O Connor 19th in 17:44, Sinead Kennedy 38th in 20:23, Esme Alexander 52nd in 21:28 and Ruth Quinn 71st in 29 mins. We also had a Special draw from all the entries for a Special Hamper, generously sponsored by O Reilly’s Pharmacy and the Lucky winner is Caoimhe Farrell, so Caoimhe can collect her Special prize at O Reilly’s Pharmacy, Gladstone Street, Clonmel, during the week, well done to all our Prize winners.

Tonight’s race was won by Conor Ryan in 14 mins 31 secs, 2nd was Patrick Roche in 15 mins 4 secs and 3rd was Dermot Logue in 15 mins 23 secs. The 1st three women tonight were Ali O Connor 14th in 17 mins 31 secs, Mercedes Conjero Martinez was 2nd in 17 mins 41 secs and 3rd was Siobhan McHugh in 17 mins 42 secs.

Tonight’s race Start was staggered with group 1 going off at zero seconds, Group 2 going off at 25 secs and Group 3 going off at 50 secs, the times are nett times.
