Templemore was the venue today for the Blue-ribbon Championships events of the road season – County Junior and Senior Road Championships. It was great to see the Club well represented in both the Senior Women’s 5k and the Men’s 10K races.
In the Senior women’s race, we had some brilliant performances on a very good route. Right from the start our athletes were well in contention with a trio of them in the top 6 in the early stages of the race. Then as the race progressed, they consolidated their positions with Angela McCann running a brilliant race when finishing 2nd in 18 mins 59 secs, then we had Kealey Tideswell also running very well when winning the Bronze medal in 19 mins 42 secs with Aine Roche finishing a very good 4th in 19 mins 51 secs. These three athletes combined very well to win the Senior Inter Club title and thus retain the Anne Mullaney Perpetual Cup for another year. Then we had Suzanne Shine running a great race when finishing 7th in 20 mins 23 secs. Anne Marie Halpin also ran a brilliant race when finishing 8th in 21 mins 17 secs. Nicola Maunsell put in a great performance when finishing 11th in 21 mins 26 secs, a PB for this distance improving greatly on her previous best of 21:44 set in last year’s BK5K. These three athletes combined very well to win the Gold medals in the B Section. We also had great performances from Sareen Walsh 13th in 22:26, Eileen Hynes 18th in 23:52 and Donna Nagle 19th in 24:13 and this trio combined very well to win the Bronze inter Club medals in the B Section, brilliant performances all round.
The men’s race was also very competitive and here we had 9 athletes competing for the Club. Joey Feery underlined his recent good form when running a PB of 34 mins 26 secs when finishing 8th with Paul Minogue also writing new figures for this distance when finishing 9th in 34 mins 48secs. Then we had Conor Ryan also posting a Pb for this distance when also running a great race when finishing 12th in 35 mins 30 secs. Then we had Anthony Bowen also running very well when finishing 18th in 36 mins 47 secs. This quartet combined to win the Inter Club bronze medals. We also had good performances from Nigel O Flaherty 19th in 37:10, Conor Fleming 23rd in 37:59 and Brian Carroll 24th in 38:07. These three athletes combined to win the Inter Club Bronze medals in the B Section. We also saw very good performances from Alan Carter 36th in 40:43 and Jonny Tobin 44th in 46:11.
