The 2nd race of this very popular series took place tonight in ideal running conditions, mild and athletes had no strong breeze to contend with up the back road. Changing conditions meant athletes had to decide whether to stay close to last week’s actual time or set a new target to beat, tough decision. Once again, we had a very competitive race. This time Jimmy Boland went to the front and soon had the entire field in Indian file as he led them down the Waterford road. Over a familiar route he kept that strong pace going to come home a very worthy winner in 19 mins 45 secs, great running. Then we had Nigel O Flaherty of the Lucky Dip team finishing 2nd in 21 mins 45 secs with his team mate Brian Carroll 3rd in 22 mins 21 secs. Colm McCarthy of The Regular Blues was 4th in 22 mins 23 secs with Dermot Logue of IP Physical Therapy E 5th in 22 mins 26 secs and Patrick Roche of James Sullivan Running Technique 6th in 22 mins 35 secs. The Women’s race was also very competitive, here we had Dympna Ryan of Where is the Finish 1st in 22 mins 40 secs with Angela McCann 2nd in 22 mins 51 secs, Linda Grogan 3rd in 23 mins 20 secs, 4th was Ali O Connor of O Reilly Pharmacy in 24 mins 52 secs with Suzanne Shine of In it to win it 5th in 25 mins and 6th was Anne Marie Boland in 25 mins 17 secs Great running all round.
The team event is hotting up in all four Divisions and it is still all to play for on the final race of the League next Wednesday night. To give all teams an incentive to finish the League off in style we will also be giving a team Prize for the lowest score team, based solely on next week’s performances. That means that we will give a team prize to the team in each Division that score the lowest score in next week’s race outside of this Prize list – the 1st 4 team in Division One, the 1st 3 team in Division Two, Three and Four. So, all to run for.
Please note that the Presentation of Prizes will take place in Mulcahy’s Gladstone Street on Wednesday night 24th April at 9pm.
Once again, the Club would like to thank Morrison BMW Cahir for sponsoring this year’s series of races. The Club would also like to thank the ETB for the use of Colaiste Cheitinn for our race headquarters, thanks also to the Gardai and the Civil Defence and to our many stewards and officials who ensured that the whole event was a brilliant success.
