These popular races took place in ideal conditions last Friday night. In the 5 Mile race Jimmy Boland ran a very good race when finishing 2nd in 26 mins 47 secs. Then we had Angela McCann also running a brilliant race when finishing 3rd overall and 1st women in 26 mins 50 secs. We also had good performances from Barry Horgan 8th in 33:20, Dick O Gorman 11th in 33:47, Pat Coffey 14th in 34:32, Elaine Horgan winning the women’s over 35 award in 34:34, Anthony Power 16th in 34:37, Alan O Shea 19th in 34:57, John Perry 20th in 35:31, Sean O Dea 22nd in 35:40, Donal Ryan 26th in 35:58, Michelle Doherty winning the women’s over 45 award in 36 mins, Pat Walsh 28th in 36:05, Anne Marie Halpin 29th in 36:20, Brendan Coffey 31st in 37 mins, Sheila Perry 34th in 37:09, Cyril Fogarty 37th in 37:29, Kenny Brett 38th in 37:58, Ann Marie Boland 39th in 38 mins, Ned O Brien winning the over 60 award in 38:02, Anna Byrne 48th in 38:45, Tommy Cahill 52nd in 39:19, Ian Patterson 53rd in 39:35, Sinead Kennedy winning the over 55 award in 41:18, Mellissa McCarthy 64th in 41:22, Noel Howley 68th in 41:48, Eddie Prendergast 69th in 41:56, Donna Nagle 85th in 44:54, Szilvia McGee 86th in 44:55, Eamon Crowley 101st in 47:20, Jacqui Walsh 106th in 49:56, Emma Norris 111th in 52:25 and Oliver McGee 112th in 55:24.
In the 5K we also saw some great performances. Here we had a great race between two Club members Conor Ryan and Anthony Bowen. Conor put in a great effort over the final km to win in 17 mins 30 secs with Anthony 2nd, 7 secs adrift. We also had good performances from Daragh Boland 5th in 20:46, Cailin Napier finishing 2nd woman in 21:17, Eimear Heafey 11th in 23:20, Myles McHugh 37th in 29:23, Harry Mulcahy 43rd in 30:25, Elena Rial 63rd in 33:14.
At the Presentation of Awards, the Joe Grinsell Shield was presented to Emmet McNamara who was the winner of the race and he retains this Shield for another year. The Laura Taylor Shield was presented to Angela McCann as the winner of the Women’s race.
