All roads led to Dundrum last week for the very popular BK5K Road Race with 27 Club members taking part and it was great to see all of them running well. Conditions was ideal as warm weather greeted the athletes. The pace was fast from the start of the one lap race. Nigel O Flaherty was our first man home when running well to finishing 14th and 2nd over 45 in 17:22. Then we had Daragh Boland also running well when finishing 25th in 18:42 with Brendan Walshe 26th in 18:59. Then we had Paudie O Keeffe running well when 28th in 19:08. Donal Ryan who entered a new age category on race day showed that he is back running as good as ever when posting 19 mins 11 secs when 29th, 6 secs faster than when he ran this route in 2019, brilliant effort. It is great to see that his training for the Cork Marathon is going well. Michael Moloney also ran well when 30th in 19:13 and improving well on his Ballyneale 5k time of 19:41. Then we had Dick O Gorman also running well when 39th in 19:39. We had Suzanne Shine also running well when finishing 2nd over 40 in 20:04. Pat Coffey is another athlete who is running well at the moment when finishing 45th in 20 mins 13 secs, an improvement on his 2019 run of 20:33. Aisling English ran well when 50th in 20:30 with Vincent McHugh 54th in 20:38, nearly matching his 2019 time of 20:36. Anne Marie Halpin ran very well when winning the over 45 award by finishing 58th in 20:45 with James Denn 60th in 20:48. Niall O Ceallaigh, one of our Juvenile Club Coaches, also put in a very good performance considering that he is just back after a lengthy injury, when finishing 61st in 20:49, a marked improvement on his 2019 run of 21:01. Alan Casey making his debut over this distance ran well when 63rd in 20:54. Michelle Doherty ran well when 78th in 21:42 with Sareen Walsh hot on her heels in 79th place on 21:57 which were, marked improvements on their recent runs of 22:11 and 22:21 respectively over this route in the County Senior 5k. Then we had Yvonne O Connor also running very well when finishing 80th in 22:01 and making a very welcome return after a lengthy layoff due to injury. Marian Flaherty is another athlete who will be very pleased with her performance when finishing 85th in 22:13. Jennifer Quinlan also ran well when 88th in 22:34. Pat Walsh showed no signs of fatigue after his recent Boston Marathon run when finishing in 22:42. Liam Casey made a welcome return to competition when finishing 102nd in 23:24 with Eddie Meegan 103rd in 23:43. Helen O Ceallaigh ran very well when finishing 118th in 24 mins 38 secs and a massive improvement on her 2019 run of 26 mins 27 secs. Ann Marie Looby also ran well when finishing 125th in 25:13. Noel Howley ran very well when winning the over 65 award in a time of 25:54 with Ned O Brien also running well when finishing 152nd in 28:12. Well done again to Dundrum AC on organising a very successful event in honour of one of their finest athletes.
