Great performances at Brendan Kinane 5K

The Brendan Kinane took place last Wednesday night, 3rd May and it was great to see a great entry form the Club as Brendan Kinane was a great supporter of our events. Sergio wins Annerville 10K

The Annerville 10K took place last Sunday in Clonmel where athletes were met with ideal running conditions, calm and mild conditions. This year’s event had both a new starting time, 10.55am, as well as a new route. There were very positives comments on the new course, where many athletes achieved Personal Bests over this Classic distance. This year’s race attracted athletes from all over the country as 16 different clubs were represented by their members in the top 20, great to see. The good weather saw a fantastic entry of 351 athletes competing. The race started on the Quay and as the athletes approached the first Km at the top of Irishtown Sergio Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers was at the head of affairs and he soon moved well clear of the chasing pack. He maintained a very good pace over familiar streets and roads to come home a very popular and convincing winner in a very good time of 30 mins 27 secs. Then we had Philip Harty of Ferrybank AC also running very well when finishing 2nd in 31 mins 59 secs with William Stephen’s of Coolquill AC finishing 3rd in 32 mins 47 secs. Rory Sexton of Grange Fermoy AC was 4th in 34 mins 14 secs with David McEvoy of Leevale AC finishing 5th in 34 mins 30 secs. The Master Men awards were won by the following athletes: 1st o/40 Tony Harty Killarney Valley 35:38, 2nd o/40 Dermot Ryan West Waterford in 36:25, 1st o/45 Sean Percy Templemore AC in 37:13, 2nd o/45 Conor Fleming Clonmel AC in 37:34,1st o/50 Dermot Hayes Dundrum AC in 34:58, 2nd o/50 Gerard Murray Rathgormack in 39:09, 1st o/55 Bernard Feery Fethard AC in 38:57,2nd o/55 Billy Prout Clonmel AC 43:25, 1st o/60 James Sullivan Tipp Town in 42:30, 1st o/65 Jimmy Lonergan Clonmel AC in 49:09 and 1st o/70 Pierce Purcell Clonmel AC in 89:06.

The Women’s race was also very competitive. Here we had the recently crowned County Senior Road Champion, Carmel Fitzgibbon of Thurles Crokes running a great race when coming home a worthy winner in 38 mins 56 secs with Lorraine Bolster of Mallow AC finishing 2nd in 39 mins 27 secs and Aine Roche of Clonmel AC 3rd in 40 mins 4 secs. We had Grainne O Callaghan of North Cork Ac 4th in 39 mins 27 secs and Kealey Tideswell of Clonmel Ac 5th in 39 mins 30 secs. The Master Women’s awards were won by the following athletes: 1st 0/35 Suzanne Shine Clonmel AC in 42:08, 2nd o/35 Edel Roche Clonmel AC in 43:14, 1st o/40 Sharon Woods Mallow AC 41:38, 2nd o/40 Benvon Lyons Waterford Ac in 42:19, 1st o/45 Siobhan McHugh Clonmel AC in 42:44, 2nd o/45 Denise Compton Dundrum AC in 46:15, 1st o/50 Frances Long Moyne AC in 49:01, 1st o/55 Julie Tideswell Clonmel AC in 48:58, 1st o/60 Dee Kaar Clonmel AC in 65:35.

The Club would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event a brilliant success. At the Presentation of Prizes, Club Chairperson, Nicola Maunsell, thanked the Garda, Civil Defence, Colaiste Cheitinn, Sporting Press and our many stewards who ensured that the race route was well marshalled. She also thanked club members who looked after the entries and post race refreshments.

Great Club performances in Annerville 10K

The Annerville 10K took place last Sunday and it was great to see so many Club members taking part. It was great to see the majority of our Club members wearing the Club singlet in our own event. Hopefully more members will wear the Club singlet in events as it promotes the Club, let’s be proud to wear the Club colours. Indeed thanks to all our Club members and friends who helped in any way to make the Annerville 10k Classic a brilliant success, such help is very much appreciated.
Back to the action and here we had Keith O Brien running very well when finishing in 16th in 37:10, improving on last year’s run of 37:46. Then we had Conor Fleming also running very well when finishing 2nd over 45 in 37:34 and a major improvement on his recent county Senior run in Dundrum of 38:08, while Brian Looram also ran very well when finishing 36th in 38:52 and also improving on his recent Dundrum run of 39:00. We also had good performances from Oliver Lynch who wrote new figures for the 10k when finishing 29th in 38:56, another man to make a big improvement on his recent run in the County Senior of 39:40, he ran 40:01 in last year’s race. James Denn was another man with a PB when finishing 33rd in 39:12, improving 18 secs on his county senior run. Last year he ran 42:41. Dick O Gorman was 36th in 39:27, Lar Martin 38th in 39:30, Brian Carroll 39th in 39:37, Bernard Durand 42nd in 39:52, Aine Roche ran very well when finishing 3rd woman in 40:04, Brendan Walshe was 46th in 40:18, he ran 41:49 in last year’s race, Kealey Tideswell also ran very well when finishing 5th woman in 40:36 with Bohus Jarabek 50th in 40:43 and he improved greatly on last year’s run of 42:17, Donal Ryan 52nd in 41:35 and last year he ran 43:53, Noel Ryan was 54th in 41:57 and he ran 44:45 in last year’s race, Peter Kiely was 55th in 42:00, Suzanne Shine also ran very well when winning the woman’ over 35 award in 42:08, James O Brien was 65th in 42:37, Cyril Fogarty was 67th in 42:42, Siobhan McHugh ran well when winning the woman’s over 45 award in 42:44, Tyrone Power was 69th in 42:53 a massive improvement on his run in last year’s race of 48:01, Tommy Dunphy was 72nd in 43:09, Edel Roche ran very well when finishing 2nd over 35 in 43:14, Vincent McHugh was 77th in 43:15 and he ran 46:12 in last year’s race, Billy Prout ran well when finishing 2nd over 55, behind his co organiser, Bernard Feery, of the famous Killusty 5 mile race, in 43:25, John Perry was 79th in 43:29 another man to make a hugh improvement on his recent County Senior run of 43:57 in Dundrum, on his debut in this event, Pat Coffey 82nd in 43:37, Michelle Doherty 85th in 43:40 and she ran 45:51 in last year’s race, Donal Casey 87th in 43:47, John Laste 90th in 43:53, Kenny Brett 92nd in 44:15 and he ran 46:23 in last year’s race, Angela Walsh 105th in 45:02, Sheila Perry 109th in 45:14, Niall Brannigan 120th in 46:14, Marian Flaherty 129th in 47:09 and a big improvement on last year’s run of 48:21, Ned O Brien 130th in 47:12, Tom Barry 131st in 47:19, Eamonn English 133rd in 47:20, Courtney McGuire was making her debut in this event and she ran very well when finishing 134th in 47:21, Pat Walsh 138th in 47:28 and another athlete to show a big improvement on last year’s run when he ran 48:47, Noel O Neill 148th in 48:34, Orla Durand 149th in 48:34, Annmarie Boland 150th in 48:36, Brian Tyrell 151st in 48:40 and a major improvement on last year’s run of 49:31,Julie Tideswell 158th in 48:58, Grainne O Malley 161st in a new PB of 49:05 and a massive improvement on last year’s run of 52:57, Sancha Quigley was another club member making her debut in this event and she ran well when finishing 166th in 49:14, Aisling English 168th in 49:21, Ian Patterson 185th in 51:04, Helen O Ceallaigh 187th in 51:15, Eoin Morrissey was another club member making his debut in this event and he ran well when finishing 188th in 51:21, Bernie Hopkins 193rd in 51:53, Michael Egan 198th in 52:25 and he also improved greatly on last year’s run of 54:13, Aine Butler was 199th in 52:27 and she improved well on last year’s run of 55:36, Benny Walsh 207th in 53:06, Sarah Toomey 223rd in 53:48 and she improve greatly on last year’s run of 56:54, Aifric Byrne was another member making her debut in this event and she too ran well when finishing 224th in 53:49, Pauline Condon was another debutant and she ran well when finishing 226th in 54:12, Aisling Cooney was 228th in 54:35 and she improved greatly on last year’s run of 60:56, Marie Laste was 231st in 54:48 and a major improvement on last year’s run of 58:17, Brenda Hanney was another debutant and she ran well when finishing 232nd in 54:59, Josephine Brett 233rd in 55:00 and improving on last year’s run by 36 secs, Cathy Mansfield was 236th in 55:04 and a major improvement of last year’s run of 66:36,, Johnny Casey was 245th in 55:36 and he also improved greatly on last year’s run of 62:05, Lorraine Kennedy 256th in 56:34, Claire Kerton was another club member making her debut in this event and she ran well when finishing 271st in 57:30, Szilvia McGee ran a great race on her debut over this course and distance when finishing 279th in 58:18, Sheena McGrath 286th in 59:08, Gillian Prendergast 290th in 60:02, Anne McGarry was 292nd in 60:12 and she showed a big improvement on last year’s run of 61:41, Claire O Brien making her debut in this event ran well when finishing 298th in 61:14, Iwona Kelleher 305th in 61:58, Michelle Lawton 312th in 63:23, Claire Falvey 317th in 63:56, Karen Dunne was another club member making her debut in this Classic and she ran well when finishing 324th in 65:07, Sabrina Guida was 326th in 65:18 and she also made a major improvement on last year’s run of 73:19, Dee Kaar also ran very well 65:35 and she also made a major improvement on last year’s run of 70:43, Jackie Hickey 331st in 67:20 and Pierce Purcell who also ran very well when winning the Men’s over 70 award in 89:06.

Kevin Maunsell breaks 30 minutes for 10K

Kevin Maunsell competed at the well renowned Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs. This is an organised programme of races over 10,000m for athletes trying to run PBs over the Classic distance on the track, a race of 25 laps and they catered for everyone. There were 5 races with over 40 athletes competing in each race and they were all graded. Kevin was in the main race with 34 athletes competing. He was in with the best as this race was also a GB trial for the 10,000m World Championships. There were a number of Irish athletes in the race as well. Going into this race Kevin’s previous best was 30 mins 23 secs and his goal was to break 30 minutes for this Classic distance. He went off at a strong pace and was running well with a group. He kept that pace going to finish 23rd in a brilliant time of 29 mins 50.69 secs, a superb performance. Well done, Kevin, a fantastic performance.

 

News from America
The American Athletics year came to a close in the last week or so and it is great to report that both Laura Tobin and Orlaith Moynihan are both back home and both had a very good year competing. Orlaith ran her fastest 10000m last week at the ECAC & IC4A Track and Field Championships in Princeton University. Orlaith ran a brilliant race when dipping under 37 minutes for the 25 lap race when finishing in 36 mins 59.84 secs, fantastic performance.
Laura Tobin also had a brilliant season and she topped it off by been selected as she was named on the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all South Region team which was announced last week. She earned that honour for her exploits over 10,000ms where she recorded a brilliant time of 38 mins 28.95 seconds earlier this year.
Meanwhile Sean Tobin, who was exempt from the Colleges Track season this year because of his brilliant performances in the Cross Country and Indoor season, opened his outdoor track and Field season with a Personal Best performance. He was competing in the Swarthmore Invitational Track and Field Meet and he competed in the 1500m he ran a brilliant race and was edged out of 1st place close to the line when finishing 2nd in 3 mins 41.80 seconds. This was a brilliant performance by Sean as he heads into a busy Track season.

 

William Stephens wins Poulmucka 8K race

Despite the very inclement weather last Friday night there was a very good entry in the very popular Poulmucka road races. William Stephens of Coolquill AC took up the pace from the start as he was determined to win this title for the 2nd year in a row. He was joined at the front by Paddy Cummins of Moycarkey Coolcroo along with Shane Scully of Nenagh Olympic as well as the Dundrum duo of Michael J Ryan and Garth McGlinchey. This group stayed together for the first 2k and then William upped the pace and soon opened a lead that he extended all the way to the line to win very convincingly in 26 mins 5 secs, great performance. Then we had Shane Scully of Nenagh Olympic also running very well when finishing 2nd in 27 mins 6 secs with Paddy Cummins of Moycarkey Coolcroo 3rd in 27 mins 7 secs with Gareth McGlinchey of Dundrum 4th in 27 mins 22 secs and Michael J Ryan (Dundrum AC) 5th in 27 mins 34 secs. The master awards were won by the following athletes, 1st over 40 Lar Martin (Clonmel AC) 30:59, 2nd over 40 James Denn (Clonmel AC) 31:36, 1st over 45 Declan O Doherty (Thurles Crokes) 30:23, 2nd over 45 Michael O Sullivan (Carrick on Suir AC) 30:36, 1st over 50 William O Donoghue (Mooreabbey Milers) 30:41, 2nd over 55 Jim Hally (Dundrum AC) 31:05, 1st over 55 Billy Prout (Clonmel AC) 34:17, 2nd over 55 John Marshal (Cashel) 37:24, 1st over 60 Maurice Boland (Clonmel) 37:58, 2nd over 60 Michael Purcell (New Inn) 45:15, 1st over 65 Martin O Neill (Clonmel) 43:43 and 2nd over 65 William Lonergan (Clonmel AC) 43:48.
The Ladies race was also very competitive and here we had Claire Annan of Clonmel AC going clear over the final stages to win convincingly in 31 mins 9 secs with her club mate Aine Roche 2nd in 31 mins 40 secs, Linda Grogan of Dundrum AC was 3rd in 32 mins and Angela McCann of Clonmel AC 4th in 32 mins 59 secs with Suzanne Shine (Clonmel AC) 5th in 33 mins 9 secs. The Master Women’s awards were won by the following athletes, 1st over 40 Michelle Doherty (Clonmel AC) 34:19, 2nd over 40 Mairead Julian (Dundrum AC) 35:18, 1st over 45 Siobhan McHugh (Clonmel AC) 34:01, 2nd over 45 Sheila Perry (Clonmel AC) 35:11, 1st over 50 Mary Moloney (Thurles Crokes) 37:04, 2nd over 50 Michelle Nugent (Cahir Meet and Train) 46:28, 1st over 55 Noreen Ryan (Clonmel) 30:19, 1st over 60 Phil Ryan 49:59 and 2nd over 60 Noreen Mangan Clonmel.

In the 5k race we also had some very good performances. Here the winner was Colm McCarthy (Clonmel AC) in 18 mins 47secs with Billy Phillips of Thurles Crokes 2nd in 19 mins 57 secs and Tyrone Power (Clonmel AC) 3rd in 20 mins 10 secs. The top 3 women performances were 1st Sabrina Hickey of Galtee Runners in 23 mins 33 secs with Mellissa McCarthy (Clonmel AC) 2nd in 24 mins 29 secs and 3rd was Sinead Hayes (Cashel) in 26 mins 14 secs.

Great Club performances at Poulmucka 8k

 

The Poulmucka 8K road race took place last week and it was great to see so many Club members support this club event. Brian Looram underlined his recent good form when running well to finish 10th in 30 mins 5 secs, we also saw Lar Martin running well when winning the over 40 award in 30 mins 59 secs. Claire Annan is another great supporter of this race and she ran very well when winning the women’s race in 31 mins 9 secs followed by James Denn who was 2nd over 40 in 20th place in 31 mins 36 secs with Aine Roche 2nd women home in 31 mins 40 secs. This race also proved very popular. Here we had Colm McCarthy running very well when finishing 1st in 18 mins 47 secs. We also had good performances from Tyrone Power 3rd in 20 mins 10 secs, Oisin de Barra 4th in 22:29, Fred Perry 5th in 22:30, Peter Carmody 8th in 22:58, Gary Morrison 11th in 24:29, Mellissa McCarthy 12th in 24:29, Michelle Lawton 27th in 27:34, Aoife Carmody 58th in 31:02, Aisling Carmody 59th in 31:10, Susan Laste 70th in 32:24 and Carol Dowling 73rd in 33:45.

Great performances at Walls of Fethard 4 Mile

This popular race took place last week and it was great to see the Club colours prominent. Claire Anna ran very well when finishing 4th overall to win the woman’s race in 22 mins 43 secs, great running by Claire. We also had good performances from  Niall O Ceallaigh was 12thin 23:47, Bohus Jarabek was 13th in  24:0, Lar Martin was 14th in 24:04, Cormac Healy was 18th in 25:20, Siobhan McHugh was 19th in 25:28, John Perry was 22nd in 25:38, Kenny Brett was 24th in 26:09, Billy Prout was 25th in 26:18, Eamonn English was 28th in 26:35, Sheila Perry was 29th in 26:40, Angela Walsh was 33rd in 27:00, Ned O Brien was 35th in 27:13, Aisling English was 37th in 27:53, Marian Flaherty was 39th in 27:55, Nicola Maunsell was 45th in 30:07, Melissa McCarthy was 46th in 30:07, Helen O Ceallaigh was 47th in 30:08, Eamonn Crowley was 51st in 32:16, Myles McHugh was 59th in33:04 and Michelle Lawton was 69th in 36:29.

 

Great performances at Touraneena 5k

This very popular race took place recently, 26th May and we had some very good performances. We had Richard O Gorman leading the Club athletes home when finishing 30th in 19 mins 4 secs with James Denn 33rd in 19 mins 17 secs. Then we had Aine Roche running well when finishing 2nd woman in 19 mins 37 secs. We also had good performances from Neil proven 42nd in 19 mins 44 secs, Kate Wall 87th in 23 mins 33 secs, Deirdre Fahey 113th in 25 mins 10 secs and Lorraine Kennedy 164th in 29 mins 54 secs.
