Munster Penthatlon title for Orla Winston
The Munster Junior & U/23 Men/Women’s Indoors & Juvenile & Youth Girls/Boys Penthatlon events took place in Nenagh Indoor track on 8th and 9th January.
On Saturday 8th January Orla Winston competed in the Girls U16 Championship event. In the 60m Hurdles she won in a time of 10.09 secs, then she won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.53m. She won the Shot Putt with a throw of 9.16M. In the Long Jump she was 2nd with a jump of 4.48m and in the 800m she was 3rd in a time of 2 mins 48.69 secs. Having won the first three events and placing second in the fourth had built up an unassailable lead over her competitors of over 500 points to ensure that she would take the gold medal and be crowned Munster Champion. We wish Orla the best of luck representing club and province in the upcoming National competition.
Then on Sunday 9th January Killian Whelan competed in a very competitive the Boys U11 Penthatlon Events with sixteen athletes competing and he too put in some great performances like in the 60m he ran 9.74 secs, he ran 31.7 secs for the 200m and in the 600m he ran 2 mins 17.8 secs . In the Shot Putt his best Throw was 5.90M and in the Long Jump he jumped 3.11m. This fine array had in 3rd place heading into the final event, setting three personnel bests along the way couldn’t maintain this standard and finished in a very credible 6th place. This was a fine set of performances for his debut in these Championships for.
